Then in part 2 we considered the following…
6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them:…
We have the power of CHOICE!
We have been created with the purpose of expressing God’s life on earth! We all have a unique assignment! We have been given talents, gifts, personalities and connections to accomplish our assignment!
Now in this extended letter and the next, we will look at the different Hebrew meanings of skill, skilled and skillful.
Lets start off by having a closer look at Proverbs chapter one – we will use the amplified bible extensively because of the clarity it brings.
Proverbs 1:1–5 AMP
THE PROVERBS (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 That people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern andcomprehend the words of understanding and insight,
3 Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity,
4 That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth—
5 The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]
The Hebrew word for skilful in this passage is the word… chakam…and means expert, wise, men who are skillful, shrewd and wise-hearted.
God has blessed us with skillful and Godly wisdom to be expert, shrewd and wise etc. the benefits of which are:
…discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,
…receive instruction in wise dealing,
…discipline of wise thoughtfulness,
…increase in learning
This bible version amplifies the meaning to …’ so that he may be able to steer his course rightly.’
Now we see that being skillful in the use of our hands and minds is not only applied to the development of an object, a project, a business or to profitability, but it also enables us to steer the course of our lives and talents correctly.
“This is the blessing or we could say the gift of empowerment God has given us!”
Our next verse in proverbs really illuminates what happens when you receive skillful and Godly wisdom.
10 For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.
Skillful and Godly wisdom enters your heart! This is a supernatural impartation!
Only the Living word of God can accomplish this! What a benefit, what an advantage for those who give time and energy into receiving and meditating on the word of God.
These passages clearly indicate that skillfulness and wisdom work together. Knowledge and understanding then become the activation of doing, directing, focus, timing and correct use of resources at the right time.
We are going to change tack here a little, but I am building a powerful picture of skill / skilled /skillful living that comes through the blessing of the Lord
Psalm 47:6–8 AMP
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises in a skillful psalm and with understanding.
8 God reigns over the nations; God sits upon His holy throne.
The word “skillful” here comes from two Hebrew words 1. mesukkah which means - a hedge and 2. Sakal meaning - to be prudent, gain insight, have success, showing intelligence and prospers.
Man, Oh, Man what an opportunity!
As we sing praises and glorify our God we create a hedge of prudence, insight, intelligence, success and prosperity around us.
This is the blessing or we could say the gift of empowerment God has given us!
To gain further understanding of this, lets look at the book of Daniel.
Daniel 1:17, 20 NKJV
17 As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.
Here we see that God gave Daniel and his friends knowledge and skill!
Who gave it to them? God!
How? It entered their heart.
This knowledge and skill created a hedge of prudence, insight, intelligence, success and prosperity around them.
Lets observe another example of skill and ability.
1 Chronicles 15:22
22 Chenaniah, leader of the Levites in singing, was put in charge of carrying the ark and lifting up song. He instructed about these matters because he was skilled and able.
The Hebrew word used here is the word...bin... and means, to discern, consider carefully, feel, gain understanding, interpret, investigate, perceive, teach and show regard.
Now most of these definitions are similar, yet they are also different and give us a wonderful picture of skill and ability.
So we could say that to be ‘blessed to be skilled’ enables us to discern, perceive, feel and interpret solutions to problems through careful consideration and investigation.
I think that we are now beginning to get a better picture of just what it means to be ‘blessed to be skilled.’
We have much more to learn and will continue with this fantastic study in the next issue.
In the meantime, let us declare this together…
Father, in the name of Jesus I receive skillful and Godly wisdom through the blessing of sonship, therefore, I am able to discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight, receive instruction in wise dealing, discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, integrity, knowledge, discretion, discernment, and increase in learning, so that I may be able to steer my course correctly. I am also enabled to perceive, feel and interpret solutions to problems through careful consideration and investigation. Thank you Lord.
I am blessed to be skilled! Amen!
